About Us
About Alar Institute
Our Institute was founded as a family enterprise in March 1999. We opened our doors in the Southwest Houston with four small classrooms, offering English as a second language courses and G.E.D (General Education Development) for the Hispanic community. We have operated from day one from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm allowing every student the possibility to attend classes in spite of differential work schedules.
We have committed ourselves not only to provide an honest service but also to respond, to the best of our ability, to our students’ unique characteristics and needs. We do this by periodically evaluating our services from the administrative point of view, by responding to our population’s financial and economic needs, and by constantly monitoring and improving the quality of our academic programs.
From the academic aspect, we provide excellence by hiring instructors who are committed to our mission, beliefs, and goals, and who are willing to acquire the needed expertise to respond to our high quality instruction standards. In-services and training are provided weekly in order to improve our instruction.
We have periodically expanded our facility adding more classrooms and computer labs in which students were able to access several self-directed learning software in five computers. The computer lab complements the instruction by allowing our students to extend what is taught in the classroom at their own phase and time. It has also been the main difference over our competitors in terms of what we offer to our students.
In the course of these past five years we have had Defensive Driving, Computer classes, Air Conditioning State Certification, Electricity and Citizenship courses in Spanish.
In December 2000, we changed from a sole proprietorship to small corporation. This enabled us to offer better stability for our instructors and administrative personnel thus raising our personnel selectivity. In June 2002 a new branch was opened in Spring Branch, Houston. The new facility has ten classrooms, a computer lab, and a students’ lounge comprised in 4,090 sq-ft. space.
We have successfully been providing adult educational services to several schools within Houston Independent School District, North Central District, Southeast District, also to the Spring Branch, Pasadena, Aldine and Waller Independent School Districts, Spring Independent School District, Fort Bend Independent School District, as well as the Yes Academy. Our Educational program and service falls under the guidelines of Title I, III, VII, XXI Century Grants and Parent Engagement Program. Click here to learn more about our ISD programs.
